Heat stress is an increasingly common problem for growers of broccoli and cauliflower in Saskatchewan. Heat stress reduces yields, quality and shelf life of these crops. As there is little growers can do to stop their crops from being exposed to excessive temperatures in the field - they instead need to adapt to the problem. One practical option is to grow cultivars which are better adapted to high temperatures. The relative heat stress tolerance of cultivars of broccoli and cauliflower were assessed by growing crops in the open field and in high tunnels.
