SVGA Field Day June 24, 2019- We met at Craven Riverside Gardens where Shawn Hansen gave us a tour of his large operation.  We were educated in growing/storing potatoes, cabbage and cauliflower- a very informative tour!  Next we toured Kissel Cabbage in Lumsden where we saw the whole process of making sour cabbage and sauerkraut.  A delicious lunch was enjoyed at the Lumsden Hotel. Wayne Gienow of Lincoln Gardens showed us the store, greenhouse, massive vegetable gardens and his equipment.  Thanks Wayne!  Our final stop was at the Last Mountain Distillery.  We enjoyed a tour and had an opportunity to try some of their products.  Very interesting.  Shawn did a great job of organizing the event. A big thank you to all our hosts and to everyone who attended - a very fun and enlightening day!

SVGA Field Day June 25, 2018 was a little different this year. We headed north of Saskatoon along the Local Food Trail.  We saw how Osler area farmers are diversifying and tapping into local markets. Thank you to BarnYard Market, Petter Farms and Pine View Farms for hosting us.  A delicious lunch was served at Pine View Farms by Fresh Dish Catering sourcing local ingredients! Thank you to Gord Enns, Executive Director of the Saskatoon Food Council, for organizing the tours.  Thank you to Chris Buhler of Floating Gardens for your informative lunch time presentation. Many thanks to Dr. Kate Congreves, U of S College of Agriculture & Bioresources, for organizing the research plot tour. The test plots are designed to evaluate the influence of nitrogen fertilizer & cover cropping on soil health and broccoli, carrot, and sweet corn production.  Thank you to Connie Achtymichuk, Provincial Vegetable Specialist, for all your help as well.  Thank you to all who attended- hope to see you next year!
